HCM CELEBRATING 22 YEARS IN THE MINIATURE HORSE BUSINESS!

Miniature Horse Costume Class Regional Champion.JPG (133137 bytes)High Country Miniatures, Inc. and Keys to our success

Betty Goodwin, Steve and Jamie Ruehle established High Country Miniatures in Larkspur Colorado in 1988 with a long term view of breeding the highest quality American Miniature Horse possible.  In 1993 we moved our then herd of 60 minis to Bellville, Texas, just 40 miles west of Houston.

All of our brood stock is carefully selected for the characteristics we believe will contribute to the development of the ideal miniature horse.  Jamie and Betty come from an architectural background and have always had a keen eye for design, balance and beauty.  This helped immensely with our selection of breeding stock.

It was February of 1988 when we purchased our first miniature horse, NFC's Sweet Dreams - a yearling filly.   In July of 1988 we purchased our foundation herd sire, X-Caliber's Little Navajo.  It is from his quality genes that our program accelerated.  Navajo is 19 years young this year and still producing National Champions, including this years AMHR National Senior Champion Stallion, under - HCM Navajo's Dream Catcher.  Navajo's Dream Catcher is proudly owned by the Maerks of Merrie Ribbon Farms.  As fate would have it HCM Navajo's Dream Catcher was out of our first filly and our first breeding stallion, X-Caliber's Little Navajo.

We have held back many of our fillies to cross with complementary stallions in our quest of ever improving the breed. We are now on our fourth generation of produce and have broadened our group of stallions to include superior individuals with particular qualities which will contribute to development of a "High Country" look.

All of our horses are well cared for and are wormed, vaccinated, and trimmed on a regular schedule. We specialize in helping to educate new owners in the proper care and showing of their horses. We spend many hours with new owners to get them comfortable in their selected area of miniature horse ownership, as pets, show, or performance horses. Our horses are fairly priced and payment terms are available. We provide guarantees not commonly found from other breeders - including written contracts, height guarantees for immature stock and live foal guarantees for bred mares. Our goal is your complete satisfaction. Most of our first time customers become friends and repeat customers.

Producing Miniature Horse Champions since 1988

High Country has produced many, many national champion show horses and is recognized as a leading producer of champions. "HCM" horses are widely recognized as top show ring competitors because of their perfect conformation, beauty and motion.

Want to drive a winner?  Start with a natural mover.  "HCM" horses are bred to excel in halter and performance.   Our 14 year breeding program has always been based on producing horses which are beautiful,  have correct conformation and are powerful movers.  We have used only stallions and mares which produced and pass on these traits.  Our stallions go back to Bond Showboy, Chianti, Gold Melody Boy and Shadow Oaks Paul Bunyan; some of the finest contributors of great motion in the miniature horse breed.

So, when you are looking for a conformationally correct horse with natural outstanding motion - remember that is what we do best.  We have consistently produced National Top Ten and Futurity halter and performance winners year after year.

Breeding Mini Horses

Our horse breeding program has always been focused on producing top quality conformation characteristics coupled with natural athletic ability.  This is why you will find "HCM" horses excelling in both halter and performance classes.

We spend as much time selecting brood mares as we do selecting stallions. We look for mares that are excellent individuals and posses characteristics which will cross with our stallions. Our breeding program is planned years in advance as immature stock is purchased and some of our own foals are retained for breeding to our various stallions. In some cases, we have several generations of horses on our farm and can show you grand dams and grand sires of most of our foals.

We always have top show prospects mini horses available for sale.
